Legal Updates
Clear, factual and up-to-date information on our business rates mitigation solutions and relevant legal developments.
Our Approach
Transparency is central to the way we work.
Legal and regulatory matters can evolve over time, and we believe our clients and stakeholders should have access to clear, factual and up-to-date information as developments occur.
This page has been created for visibility on the status of our business rates mitigation solutions, relevant legal developments and any significant milestones that may affect them.
Where decisions or developments present challenges, we explain these openly, including what they mean and what happens next.
Equally, we share positive developments and successful outcomes with the same level of clarity.
Our aim is to ensure that our clients can make decisions based on the most relevant information available directly from Verity.
Scheme Updates
Place of Worship (POW)
🟢 Current Status: Live
Verity’s Place of Worship (POW) is a solution for eligible vacant commercial properties which facilitates genuine religious use of empty commercial properties. Our approach is based on the statutory framework governing business rates exemptions for places of religious worship and involves the property being made available for appropriate worship activities through our established operating structure and partners.

How it Works
Property Assessment
Verity reviews the vacant commercial property and its circumstances to confirm whether it may be suitable for the Place of Worship scheme.
Scheme Activation
Where the property is eligible, Verity arranges for it to be made available for genuine, short periods of religious worship. The scheme has been developed with advice from a leading King’s Counsel and is operated in accordance with the relevant legal framework.
Working with Faithful
Worship sessions are coordinated by our Property for Good partner, Faithful, with arrangements designed to minimise disruption to the property. Once the necessary registration and operational requirements have been completed, the property may qualify for business rates relief for the period during which the relevant conditions continue to be met.
Cycle
🟢 Current Status: Live
Verity’s Cycle scheme is a solution for eligible vacant commercial properties that facilitates the placement and storage of stock within the property. Our solution operates within the legal and regulatory framework governing occupation and business rates liability. As with all of our schemes, the specific circumstances of each property are considered carefully, and arrangements are structured with the relevant legal and regulatory requirements in mind.

How it Works
Tenancy & Occupation
Verity identifies a suitable business requiring storage space and arranges a tenancy for an eligible property. The tenant occupies the property for at least 92 days for genuine storage purposes, with arrangements designed to minimise disruption to marketing and viewings.
Tenant Vacates
Once the agreed occupation ends, the tenant removes its stock and vacates the property. The property may then qualify for an empty-property rates exemption, subject to the applicable legislation and the relevant authority’s assessment.
Relief & Ongoing Management
Qualifying properties may receive three months of empty-property rates relief, extended to six months for certain industrial premises. Where appropriate, Verity can manage the administration and arrange a future qualifying tenancy on the landlord’s behalf.
